Our Service Philosophy

Kurnell Preschool Kindergarten is focused on ensuring each child has the opportunity to explore and develop their own identity through play-based learning.

Our curriculum supports holistic approach to scaffold the children’s interests to foster the learning outcomes, principles and practices. Educators support learning: through the provisions of appropriate planned and spontaneous experiences as well as intentional teaching. They offer encouragement and materials; and provide a secure, caring and stimulating environment that encourages children to develop cognitively, physically, socially, emotionally as well as enhancing their communication and language skills.

Our environment is sustainable and carefully resourced with the inclusivity of a loose part play. Educators also believe children should explore a range of manufactured materials and be exposed to “real life” resources. Thus, encourage and promote self-expression, sense of belonging, sense of identity, assist children to build and maintain relationships, experimentation, independence and many different maps of thinking processes with individual learning outcomes.

Our philosophy recognises that children mature at different rates, styles of learning. It also emphasises the importance of holistic learning with the establishment of an emotionally secure foundation to support each preschooler developing sense of self and empathy for other. Relationships between children and children, children and educators and educators and families are nurtured, with the aim to establish a community of learners who embark on a mutually beneficial learning journey creating their sense of self within their world and community.

Our service provides a nurturing, secure and stimulating learning environment, one that promotes happiness and a strong desire to learn. We acknowledge family values and beliefs, which are of importance to the Preschool, and welcomes diversity into our program. We believe that working closely, and building partnerships with families is vital, so children feel like we are an extension of their family home.

Science, technology, engineering and math’s (STEM) activities and experiences will be provided to empower children with the skills to succeed and adapt to our changing world. Children’s learning and interest around this learning will be facilitated regularly.

We believe the local community is one of our greatest resources. We aim to embrace local services and connect with the local school, businesses and community organisations. We place importance in recognising the local Aboriginal community and embrace the Aboriginal culture and history embedding it throughout our everyday learning. We believe in creating a safe space for children to actively connect with their community and our rich environment which provides opportunities for them to do so through nature play.

All employees must have the appropriate qualifications, experience and professionalism to ensure that high quality education and care is delivered, as well as fulfilling the goals of the service. They participate in professional development regularly and are conscious of a team approach where everyone aims for cohesion and educators regularly engage in critical reflection, seek input from colleagues and strive to continually improve and develop in their practices.

We are a community based not-for-profit preschool with a Parent Committee elected to take on the role of Approved Provider. Parental expectations and needs are acknowledged and acted upon through this parent Committee acknowledges the significant role teachers and educators have in linking families, community resources and professional organisations together.
